About Tripura Sundari Temple

Tripura Sundari Temple is vivid and captures its historical, spiritual, and architectural essence perfectly.

Tripura Sundari Temple: A Sacred Jewel of Tripura

Situated near Udaipur in Tripura, about 55 km from Agartala, the Tripura Sundari Temple, also known as Matabari, is one of India’s most revered Shakti Peethas. Dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari, a manifestation of Goddess Parvati, this sacred site has been a center of spiritual reverence since its construction around the late 15th century by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya.

    • The temple features a distinctive Bengali architectural style, with its iconic red dome and a modest sanctum, perched gracefully atop a hillock beside the serene Kalyan Sagar Lake, home to sacred tortoises and fish.
    • According to Hindu mythology, the temple marks the site where the right foot of Sati (Parvati) is believed to have fallen, making it one of the 51 Shakti Peethas scattered across the Indian subcontinent.
    • A major pilgrimage site, the temple draws thousands of devotees, especially during the annual Diwali Mela, when people gather for darshan (rituals and prayers) and to seek the blessings of the goddess.

Blending spiritual significance with natural beauty, the Tripura Sundari Temple offers visitors not only a place for devotional practices but also a tranquil escape, enveloped in serenity and reverence.
